2025.04.02

Hainan's seafood exports have gotten off to a "strong start" this year. In the first two months, the province's seafood export markets expanded significantly across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and other regions. The International Food Exhibition will offer you a variety of seafood.

At the Haiwei Port aquaculture base in Changjiang, over 300,000 jin of golden pomfret are being exported to Southeast Asia after undergoing chilled processing—a vivid example of Hainan's fresh seafood going global. Data shows exports to the U.S. grew by 39.6%, while Canada saw a remarkable 109.9% increase. European markets performed strongly, with exports to the U.K. and France rising by 75.7% and 75.3%, respectively. Orders from Israel in the Middle East also surged by 52.2%.The International Food Exhibition will also contribute to the import and export trade

Tilapia remains the leading export product. As one of the most important aquaculture species recommended by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Hainan's tilapia and related products generated 510 million yuan in export value in the first two months, up 36.5% year-on-year and accounting for 93.4% of the province's total seafood exports. Hainan Goodfish Food Co., Ltd., whose frozen tilapia fillets are HACCP-certified, sells to Europe, the U.S., the Middle East, and Mexico.

Other specialty seafood products also saw strong growth, including chilled golden pomfret, rabbitfish, frozen shrimp cakes, and mackerel. Haikou Customs has implemented streamlined measures such as "inspection alongside customs clearance" and "rapid certification" to ensure "zero-delay" clearance for seafood exports. "With customs guidance, our tilapia exports have become much more efficient," said a representative from Tongwei (Hainan) Aquatic Products Co., Ltd.

Hainan Morning Sea Aquaculture Co., Ltd., a leader in southern breeding, has gained recognition for its South China Sea Zhongsha Fish brand. The company operates 86 net cages in Yalong Bay, producing up to 4,000 tons of premium golden pomfret annually. "Seafood farmed here grows fast, has excellent quality, and is highly sought after," said a company executive.

Ledong Li Autonomous County is advancing an integrated "marine ranching + deep processing + cold-chain logistics" industrial model. The county's fishery output value rose by 14% in 2024, and this year, it plans to add two deep-sea cages, expanding offshore farming capacity to 215,000 cubic meters to strengthen its "marine granary."

Driven by the "Hainan Fresh" branding strategy, Hainan's specialty seafood products are rapidly expanding into global markets. With continuous improvements in the supply chain and customs efficiency, the international competitiveness of Hainan's seafood continues to grow, injecting new momentum into the province's marine economy.
