The International Food Exhibition | 2025 China Durian Import-Export Trade Data Brief

2025.03.31

Core Insights
From 2015 to 2024, China's durian import volume surged nearly sixfold, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.94%. The total import value skyrocketed over 15 times, posting a CAGR of 36.27%. The import price per kilogram rose by $2.56, up 134.79% with a CAGR of 9.95%. Due to negligible export volumes in 2015 and 2024, China's durian trade deficit and total import-export value mirrored import figures.

Key Import-Export Partners
In 2024, China sourced durian mainly from Thailand (52.63% of volume, 57.95% of value), Vietnam (46.7% of volume, 41.63% of value), Philippines, and Malaysia. On the export front, Russia was the primary destination, followed by Macau and Kazakhstan. Notably, international platforms like the International Food Exhibition have increasingly facilitated trade connections, showcasing durian varieties and fostering partnerships with global buyers.

Major Trade Hubs
Guangdong, Yunnan, and Guangxi led imports, accounting for 24.78%, 17.5%, and 15.14% of total import volume, respectively. Exports were routed through Heilongjiang (to Russia), Guangdong (to Macau), and Xinjiang (to Kazakhstan and Russia).Events such as the International Food Exhibition often highlight regional trade strengths, positioning these hubs as gateways for durian commerce.

Temporal Distribution
Imports peaked in June, accounting for 36.52% of annual volume and 36.04% of value. Over the decade, imports concentrated in Q2 (January, June, October, November). Exports showed no distinct seasonal patterns due to small volumes.

Conclusion
China's reliance on durian imports continues to deepen, with Southeast Asian nations as key suppliers and southern provinces as import hubs. While exports remain limited, markets like Russia show potential. Future focus should be on supply chain resilience through enhanced cold chain logistics and policy adaptability to elevate international competitiveness.
