International Food Exhibition | Special Agricultural Products from the Chengdu-Chongqing Region Accelerate Overseas Exports

2025.03.18

On the morning of March 10th, a truck loaded with 15 tons of luncheon meat cans departed from Hechuan District, Chongqing. This marked the first successful export of Chongqing's meat can products to Singapore.

The International Food Exhibition noted that this export was made possible through the China-Singapore Connectivity Project and the cooperation between the customs authorities of the two countries. Two enterprises in Chongqing have obtained certification and are permitted to export five types of animal-derived canned products, including pork, poultry, beef, mutton, and eggs.

Sun Xi Yong, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Administration of the China-Singapore Demonstration Project, stated that 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Strategic Connectivity Demonstration Project. Through close collaboration between China and Singapore, the regulatory system for animal-derived products in Chongqing has passed the entry certification for the Singapore region for the first time, adding another achievement to the China-Singapore Connectivity Project.

The China-Singapore (Chongqing) Strategic Connectivity Demonstration Project is the third government-to-government cooperation project between China and Singapore. In recent years, the agricultural sector has become one of the key focuses of the project. Under this framework, both sides have actively implemented the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Agricultural Cooperation Plan. By aligning with international standards for agricultural product imports and exports, a new export channel for special agricultural products from the Chengdu-Chongqing region has been established. This has enabled agricultural products such as Yunyang Chrysanthemum and Zhongxian Zhongcheng to be exported to the international market for the first time through Singapore, with a total trade volume exceeding US$230 million.

China and Singapore have also jointly established a comprehensive cross-border trade platform for agricultural products, helping special agricultural products from the Chengdu-Chongqing region to enter overseas markets and establish an international sales network, which now covers more than 33,000 enterprises. In addition, Chongqing has introduced Temasek's wholly-owned enterprise, Xinda Ya, to share Singapore's cross-border trade platform. This initiative aims to help 200 agricultural product enterprises from Chongqing and Southeast Asia build international brand images, establish overseas channels, and expand into international markets.

Driven by the project, the ASEAN has become the largest trading partner of the Chengdu-Chongqing region. In 2024, Chongqing's total import and export volume with the ASEAN reached 117.79 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. Cui Guosheng, General Manager of Chongqing Agricultural Products Group Food Technology Co., Ltd., stated that the export of agricultural products to Singapore will drive enterprises to accelerate the establishment of a quality management system in line with international standards, helping enterprises to develop better in both international and domestic markets.

Wang Zhongwen, Deputy Commissioner of Chongqing Customs, said that Chongqing Customs will continue to rely on the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Project to further promote more special agricultural and food products from Chongqing and the Chengdu-Chongqing region to the world, allowing the world to taste the "Chongqing flavor."
