China Food Exhibition | Data Analysis of China's Snack Industry:Independent Mini-Packaging Design is Popular Among Consumers

2025.02.26

In recent years, the Chinese snack industry has developed rapidly, with the market size continuously expanding. As consumers' demands for health, quality, and personalization increase, they are paying more attention to the health attributes and nutritional value of food, and are more inclined to choose products that are natural, additive-free, low-sugar, and low-fat. At the same time, younger consumers' preference for novel and interesting products has driven the innovative development of the snack industry.

Data from iiMedia Research (iMedia Research) shows that in 2024, among Chinese snack consumers' preferences for snack packaging, 52.81% of consumers prefer individually wrapped packages, 47.83% prefer sealed bags, 37.50% prefer cardboard boxes, 32.14% prefer bulk, and 31.25% prefer glass bottles.

The data indicates that individually wrapped and sealed bag packaging are more favored by consumers, reflecting the pursuit of convenience and food hygiene quality by snack consumers. The design of individually wrapped packages is convenient for carrying and consumption, while avoiding direct contact between hands and food, reducing the risk of bacterial contamination and ensuring greater hygiene. Sealed packaging can effectively block air, moisture, and microorganisms, slowing down the oxidation and spoilage process of food, thereby maintaining its freshness and taste, and extending the shelf life.

As consumers' awareness of health and food safety increases, snack brands should place greater emphasis on product quality. They need to not only strengthen quality supervision during the food production process but also optimize and improve packaging design. By using designs such as individual packaging and sealing, they can maintain food freshness and ensure food hygiene. China Food Exhibition, as an important industry showcase, provides snack brands with the opportunity to display innovative products and packaging designs, and also offers consumers a window to understand the latest industry trends.
