International Food Exhibition | Hainan’s First Fish Fry Export Ship of 2025 Sets Sail from Lingshui

2025.04.17

In April 2025, the port of Xincun in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Hainan, saw the departure of its first fish fry export ship of the year, the "Rokujūichi Wakamiya Maru," carrying 170,000 juvenile Napoleon wrasses (Cheilinus undulatus) to Naha, Japan. This marked the official start of Hainan’s live fish fry export trade via maritime transport for the year. The peak season for fish fry exports in Hainan is from March to June. In recent years, growing market demand has spurred local aquaculture companies to increase investment in fish egg production, seedling breeding, and the introduction of genetic resources, thereby expanding the scale of fish fry exports. A company representative said that they expect to send 10 ships of fish fry to Japan this year, totaling approximately 2 million fry, with a total value exceeding 5 million US dollars. The International Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

The International Food Exhibition notes that to ensure the smooth customs clearance of the fish fry ship, Sanya Border Inspection Station under the Haikou Border Inspection Station optimized its service model and introduced an innovative "full-chain escort" service system. The station completed the digital verification of the ship’s documents 24 hours in advance through a "paperless declaration" system and moved the inspection window forward to the offshore operation area. Given the characteristics of fish fry ships, which have large loading capacities, long operation times, and high inspection requirements, the Sanya Border Inspection Station strengthened cooperation with customs and maritime authorities. It developed a special joint inspection plan to synchronize loading operations with joint inspections, thereby improving the efficiency of customs clearance at the port. The station also simplified the inspection procedures through measures such as online pre-declaration and pre-inspection, and one-time processing of entry and exit procedures, ensuring that the fish fry ships could "load and go" immediately and reducing the operating costs of enterprises.
