Food Exhibition | China-ASEAN Agricultural Product Processing Cooperation Achieves New Breakthrough

2025.04.10

Recently, a batch of fresh coconuts from Vietnam entered the Chinese market through the Hekou Port in Yunnan Province and were quickly transported to local processing lines. This operation marks significant progress in the deep processing of agricultural products in China-Vietnam border trade, setting a new example for regional economic cooperation. The Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

It is reported that this batch of coconuts, weighing 24 tons in total, took only 24 hours from being harvested in Vietnam to completing customs clearance, fully demonstrating the improved efficiency of cross-border logistics. Hekou Customs optimized the supervision process to provide full support for the import and processing business.

"We adopted an 'online declaration + rapid inspection' model, allowing enterprises to complete the entire declaration process through the electronic system. Upon arrival, the goods can directly enter dedicated inspection channels," said a relevant official from Hekou Customs. "At the same time, we implemented a 'one-stop' customs clearance service, where qualified goods can be transported directly to processing plants without secondary loading and unloading, effectively reducing logistics costs for enterprises."

To promote the transformation and upgrading of border trade, local customs authorities intervened in advance, organizing special teams to visit and research processing enterprises, tailoring customs clearance solutions for them. In terms of regulatory innovation, a "delegated inspection" mechanism was introduced, allowing representatives of border residents to handle procedures collectively, significantly improving the convenience of customs clearance.

As an important gateway for China to ASEAN, Hekou Port has continuously advanced trade facilitation reforms in recent years. Customs data shows that from January to February 2025, the border trade volume and value at the port both increased, with transactions exceeding 350 million yuan and participation from over 30,000 border residents, resulting in notable per capita income growth.

Industry experts pointed out that the successful launch of this Vietnamese fresh coconut processing business not only enriches the forms of China-Vietnam border trade but also explores a new development model of "port + industry." By converting imported raw materials into high-value-added products locally, it effectively drives the transformation of border areas from traditional trade to industrial agglomeration, providing new practices for international production capacity cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.  The Food Exhibition also promotes exchanges between China and the world.

With the deepening implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), agricultural trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries will continue to strengthen. This innovative practice has opened new pathways for border regions to develop specialized processing industries and increase residents' incomes, further promoting higher-quality economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN.
