It is currently the season for coffee cherries to ripen. In the Nan Dao River plantation base of Yunnan Bei Gui Coffee Co., Ltd. in Pu'er City, farmers are busily moving among the coffee trees, skillfully picking the bright red and plump coffee cherries. After undergoing multiple processes such as washing, depulping, demucilaging, drying, and sun-bleaching, these cherries will be shipped to destinations worldwide.

According to Zhou Zhiyan, the person in charge of the base, "Compared to previous years, the coffee cherries in the 2024/2025 season are larger and have better luster, attracting global buyers to compete for purchases. Last year, we exported 1,800 tons of green coffee beans."

As one of the world's top three beverages, coffee faces strict international trade requirements for the quality of green beans. According to information from the China Food Exhibition, Pu'er City in Yunnan is the "golden belt" for coffee cultivation and is China's largest coffee-producing area in terms of planting area, output, and quality. To support the development of Yunnan's coffee industry, Simao Customs, under the jurisdiction of Kunming Customs, has continuously deepened long-term mechanisms such as the "Commissioner's Door-to-Door Policy Delivery." They have conducted in-depth enterprise visits and provided targeted assistance to address issues in the planting process. By guiding companies to adjust planting density and intercropping, combined with regular monitoring and early warning of pests and diseases, they have effectively prevented pest invasions and enhanced the stability of coffee quality.

Li Jun, Deputy Commissioner of Simao Customs, said: "We have fully utilized the National Key Laboratory for Coffee Testing (Pu'er) to organize technical experts to test soil, irrigation water, coffee beans, and plant pests and diseases in coffee planting demonstration bases. Based on the test results, we provide technical guidance on formula fertilization to safeguard the healthy development of the Pu'er coffee industry and help Yunnan coffee gain global recognition."

In addition, to accelerate coffee exports, Simao Customs has optimized the local inspection and sampling procedures, proactively coordinated with enterprises' export plans, and reasonably allocated human resources to ensure seamless sampling and testing. They have also guided enterprises to use the "cloud issuance" of export inspection and quarantine certificates and the "intelligent review + self-printing" model for certificates of origin, making coffee exports more efficient and convenient. In January of this year, the customs supervised the export of 808 tons of green coffee beans, a year-on-year increase of 191%; they issued 12 coffee certificates of origin, with a total value of 19.816 million yuan, representing year-on-year increases of 300% and 257.6%, respectively.

With its excellent quality and unique flavor, Yunnan coffee has won favor globally. According to statistics from Kunming Customs, Yunnan Province exported 32,500 tons of coffee in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 358%, with exports to 29 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and Vietnam, maintaining the top position in national exports.

As the global demand for high-quality coffee continues to grow, the international market prospects for Yunnan coffee are very broad.
